Holiday Food Drive
WIS’s annual food drive begins on November 4th! We will have one month to collect as many donations as possible to help families in need for the holidays. Inner Sunset Sundays

On Sunday, October 13th, Woodside participated in the Inner Sunset Sunday located at 9th and Irving from 10-3pm. The street was blocked off for vendors, food, and performances. Along with Ms. Crabtree, students Mary Claire, Lauren and Tin offered free face painting to children in our community, and made over $100 in tips, which went to the fundraising efforts of the senior class, who are raising money for their senior trip at the end of the year.

Large Scale Painting

Large Scale Painting students have begun to paint the ocean-themed panels that will be beautifying our Rec room! There are four 4′ x 8′ panels that small groups are collaborating on. They include imagery of sea life including dolphins, turtles, whales, and coral. Stay tuned for updates!
New Murals

We are excited to present the first time-lapse video of our students working on a mural in the French room with our art teacher Ms. Crabtree! Students Lauren and Mary-Claire, who are taking an Independent Study Portfolio class at WIS, worked on this for 6 hours. Great work! Stay tuned for more to come!
Freshman and Sophomore Art

Lacy’s art classes have been drawing food illustrations for their favorite 5 course meals. The above drawing of chocolate coated strawberries was skillfully drawn by Tina. These pieces will soon be recreated in clay to be fired in the kiln.
Junior and Senior Art

Angie’s art classes have been studying anatomy drawings from both human and animal references. They have created some beautiful works full of intricate details and shading, including this muscle study of a chimpanze’s face by Mary Claire. They are now starting some x-ray drawings with white pastel on black paper, which will be posted in the next newsletter!
Fun in Chemistry

Last week, Tiffany’s Chemistry class conducted an experiment to study the difference between physical and chemical change. When you mix mentos mints with soda, the carbonation attaches to the grooves in the mentos, called nucleation sites, causing huge eruptions. Fun!

Supporting Non-kill Dog Shelters
One of our students, Nataly Sapozhnikov, volunteers at located in the Mission District of San Francisco, and plans to enter veterinary school upon graduation. She would like to help their rescue dogs find fostering and adoptive families. The current dog, Randy, is a 3 year old staffordshire terrier. A little bit about him: although he is “dog reactive,” he’s great on leash and sweet with kids. For more information, click . Please help spread the word so that Randy can find a loving family.

Emily Andrade’s Performance
On Thursday, October 10th, Emily Andrade was asked by Good Samaritan Preschool to sing at their fundraiser. She attended the school as a child, and was asked to represent the school based on her outstanding grades, scholarship status at WIS, and volunteer work with the children of the preschool. We are very proud that she had the honor of performing at such a wonderful event. As seen in the photo, teacher Laura Zamora had the opportunity to attend the event at the mansion in Sea Cliff.
